Nigeria Police Force Dismisses Involvement in Traditional Leadership Selection
The Nigeria Police Force has refuted a report published by Sahara claiming that the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, acted on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest a chief and threaten kingmakers who insisted on following due process . The Nigeria Police Force denies any involvement in the selection of traditional leaders and asserts that the IGP did not order any arrests related to the kingship selection process .

Arrests Made Following Community Petition

The report states that certain kingmakers engaged in illegal activities, including extortion and bribery, and demanded money from individuals seeking a traditional leadership position ¹. An investigation was launched after a formal petition was submitted by members of the community, leading to the questioning of one individual who admitted to receiving money and implicated others in the illegal practice ¹. The investigation is ongoing, and additional individuals suspected of involvement will be invited for questioning  Legal charges will be filed against those found culpable .

AIG Ogundele Ayodeji, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the FCID Annex Lagos, has urged the public to come forward with any relevant information to assist in the investigation and ensure justice is served . He also issued a warning to anyone attempting to involve the leadership of the IGP or the Nigeria Police Force in corrupt practices, emphasizing that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law . The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to maintaining professionalism, integrity, and transparency in all its operations and reiterates the IGP's zero-tolerance stance on corruption .
