Operation Fansan Yamma Theatre Commander Seeks Local Support in Fight Against Terrorism

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, has called for increased local support in the fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s North West region. This appeal was made during a visit by members of the Nigerian Legion, Zamfara State chapter, led by Aminu Ladan Mada, on November 27, 2024, in Gusau, Zamfara State.

In a press statement released by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Commander highlighted the importance of collaboration between security forces and local communities to achieve sustainable peace in the region.

Improved Coordination in Security Operations

General Soyele explained that the restructuring of former operations, Operation Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch, into the unified Operation Fansan Yamma was designed to enhance coordination and improve responses to the security challenges plaguing the region and parts of Niger State.

He noted significant progress, particularly in reducing banditry along the Gusau-Funtua highway, and assured stakeholders that troops are maintaining a heightened state of readiness. He emphasized that local intelligence and community support remain critical components of the ongoing successes.

Nigerian Legion Pledges Support

During the meeting, Aminu Ladan Mada, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Zamfara State chapter, expressed condolences over the recent passing of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. Mada commended General Soyele’s leadership and extensive experience, describing them as assets in addressing the region’s security challenges.

Mada pledged the Legion's support for Operation Fansan Yamma and stressed the importance of synergy between security forces and the local population. He also praised the Defense Headquarters for restructuring operations in the North West, noting that the move promotes better collaboration and resource management in the fight against insecurity.

Renewed Call for Community Collaboration

Major General Soyele reiterated his call for the continued support of local communities, urging residents to share timely intelligence with security forces to help combat terrorism and banditry more effectively.

The Commander’s appeal underscores the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the North West, a region that has long grappled with security threats.
