Police Launch Anti-Crime Outreach Program, Distribute Palliatives to Jiwa Community

IGP Reiterates Commitment to Community Policing

In a significant move to strengthen community policing and combat crime at the grassroots level, the Nigeria Police Force has launched an anti-crime outreach program in Jiwa Town, Abuja. Organized by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), the event held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, gathered over 500 participants, including parents, community leaders, and youth representatives.

Under the theme "Breaking the Circle: Parental Responsibility in Preventing Youth Crime," the initiative seeks to address the pressing social issues affecting young people, such as cultism, drug abuse, and other criminal behaviors. Through discussions and engagements, the event emphasized the role of families and communities in safeguarding the youth and building a stronger, crime-free society.

The outreach also introduced youth empowerment programs, focusing on development, rehabilitation, and skill acquisition. These initiatives aim to provide young people with constructive alternatives to crime and support them in becoming self-reliant. To further support the community, the police distributed various palliatives, including food items, educational materials, clothing, and other essentials.

The Inspector-General of Police, represented at the event, highlighted the significance of community engagement in crime prevention. He encouraged participants to foster a collaborative spirit, stressing the importance of parental responsibility and early intervention to reduce youth crime. By facilitating dialogue and involving various stakeholders, the program aims to build a safer environment for families and the community at large.
