The Tincan Island Port Area Command has a new Customs Area Controller (CAC) following the deployment of Comptroller FO Onyeka, who takes over from Comptroller DA Nnadi, mni, recently promoted to Assistant Comptroller General (ACG).

Comptroller FO Onyeka, a seasoned officer, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s in Public Administration, and several professional certifications obtained through training within and outside Nigeria. His career has been marked by a consistent display of remarkable intellect, dedication, and innovation across various assignments.

A Track Record of Excellence

Before his appointment as CAC of Tincan Island Port Area Command, Comptroller Onyeka served as the officer in charge of the Premier Port Gate, where he played a pivotal role in generating trillions of naira in revenue. His earlier posting at the Onne Port Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) gate saw similar success, with record-breaking revenue collections and transformative innovations under his watch.

As the first recipient of the Value-Added Officer Award, created by ACG B Imam, Comptroller Onyeka is known for his commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling efforts. His leadership style combines strict adherence to compliance with a collaborative and innovative approach, positioning him as a driving force for change within the Service.

A Vision for Progress

In his inaugural address, Comptroller Onyeka pledged to uphold the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs, emphasizing collaboration, consolidation, and innovation. He acknowledged the exemplary leadership of his predecessor, Comptroller DA Nnadi, particularly in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and infrastructural transformation.

Comptroller Onyeka also expressed his commitment to an all-inclusive leadership style, urging critical stakeholders, including security agencies, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and the media, to work together in upholding the legacy of excellence at the Command.

Impressive Revenue and Anti-Smuggling Achievements

During the handover ceremony, outgoing Comptroller DA Nnadi highlighted the Command’s remarkable achievements under his tenure. He reported that the Command had generated N1.226 trillion as of December 2024, representing 86.8% of the Federal Government’s 2024 revenue target of N1.413 trillion. This marks a significant improvement from the N716.5 billion generated in 2023.

In enforcement and anti-smuggling efforts, the Command recorded a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4.5 billion for seized goods in 2024, a significant increase from the N1.05 billion recorded in 2023. These achievements underscore the Command’s commitment to combating smuggling and ensuring strict compliance with trade regulations.

A Farewell Message

ACG DA Nnadi expressed gratitude to the officers and stakeholders for their unwavering support during his tenure. He urged them to extend the same cooperation to Comptroller Onyeka and reiterated his availability at the headquarters to provide advice and guidance to further the Command’s progress.

With Comptroller Onyeka at the helm, the Tincan Island Port Area Command is poised to build on its successes, driving innovation, efficiency, and collaboration in line with the Customs Service’s core mandates.
