CONMMEP Workshop on Port Community Engagement to Hold December 17
The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has confirmed that its highly anticipated workshop, themed “Port Community Engagement: Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development,” will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Rockview Hotel and Suites, Apapa, Lagos.
The one-day workshop is set to bring together key stakeholders in the maritime sector, including representatives from port communities, government agencies, and corporate establishments. The event aims to foster meaningful dialogue on improving port-community engagement, promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and addressing the challenges faced by host communities.
Dignitaries expected at the workshop include Honourable Saad Lukumon Olumo and Honourable Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituencies 1 and 2, respectively; Honourable Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area; Yemi Idowu, CEO of Air Com Nigeria Limited; and Honourable Dr. Paul Kalejaye, Member of the House of Representatives.
The Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, will serve as the Chief Guest of Honour, while the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, MFR, will grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour. The Royal Fathers of the Day include the Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, HRM Oba Abdul Fatai Aremu Aromire, and the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, HRM Oba Moroof Oyekunle Atanda Amodu Tijani Oluwa.
According to CONMMEP, the workshop will highlight people-oriented projects and services that benefit port communities, as well as explore strategies for sustainable development through robust partnerships. It will also serve as a platform to address issues arising from the neglect of host communities, aiming to pave the way for a more inclusive and productive maritime industry.
