Lagos State Government Revamps LASTMA Special Traffic Mayor Programme

In a bold move to enhance traffic management and emergency response, the Lagos State Government has rebranded the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Special Traffic Mayor (STM) programme.

At an induction ceremony held at the State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Shuaheeb Agoro, along with the Body of Permanent Secretaries, were formally inducted into the revitalized initiative.

The event was presided over by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, and supported by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa.

Strengthening Partnerships for Traffic Solutions

The rebranded STM programme is designed to bolster the state’s traffic management system by fostering collaborations between the government, public stakeholders, and private citizens. The initiative aims to complement the efforts of LASTMA officers in tackling Lagos’ dynamic traffic challenges while improving emergency response mechanisms.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Sola Giwa emphasized the importance of public participation in addressing the state’s traffic issues. “This rebranding represents a renewed commitment to empowering citizens to play an active role in ensuring road safety and maintaining order. The Special Traffic Mayors will significantly contribute to achieving our transportation goals and promoting a culture of collaboration,” he said.

Permanent Secretary Mr. Olawale Musa noted that the revamped STM programme aligns with the state’s strategic vision of harmonizing public and private sector efforts to mitigate traffic congestion.

“The initiative is a critical step toward creating a seamless traffic management system and improving emergency responsiveness across Lagos State,” Musa added.

A Call for Collective Responsibility

The Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Shuaheeb Agoro, expressed his gratitude and commended the state government’s foresight.

“This programme goes beyond traffic management; it instills a sense of collective responsibility among citizens and stakeholders. I am proud to be part of this transformative initiative,” he stated.

The revamped STM programme includes advanced tools, specialized training, and enhanced resources for Special Traffic Mayors, enabling them to operate effectively alongside LASTMA officers.
