LASTMA, Emergency Agencies Save Lives in Fatal Ita-Oluwo Accident

A catastrophic accident involving two containerized trucks has occurred at Powerline by Cele Bus Stop, Ita-Oluwo, Ikorodu, Lagos, claiming two lives and leaving two others critically injured.

The incident, which took place earlier today, involved a loaded truck that reportedly suffered brake failure while attempting to evade a pursuing revenue collector. The mechanical failure led to a collision with an empty truck, multiple vehicles, and damage to nearby buildings.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Fire Service, and personnel from the Nigerian Army’s 174 Battalion, responded swiftly to the scene. Their coordinated efforts led to the rescue of two individuals trapped in the wreckage, while two others were recovered lifeless. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, where the survivors are receiving medical treatment.


LASTMA officials immediately cordoned off the accident site with caution tape to protect the public and facilitate the operations of emergency responders.

Speaking on the tragedy, the General Manager of LASTMA expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and commended the heroic efforts of the rescue teams. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Efforts to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow in the area are ongoing. LASTMA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety and has urged all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
