PTML Command Achieves Record-Breaking Revenue of N44.9 Billion in November

The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved its highest-ever monthly revenue collection of N44.9 billion in November 2024, thanks to the successful implementation of the new customs trading platform, B'Odogwu.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Comptroller Tenny Daniyan, Customs Area Controller of the PTML Command, highlighted the significant strides made since the rollout of B'Odogwu in the command. He described the platform as a "Nigerian innovation" that has already begun to transform customs operations and revenue generation.

Increased Bank Participation

Daniyan disclosed that over five banks are already integrated into the B'Odogwu system, with arrangements finalized for an additional 17 banks on the interswitch payment platform to join. He assured stakeholders that the NCS ICT/Modernization Department is working closely with these banks to facilitate a seamless payment process, with final updates expected by Thursday.

Addressing Stakeholder Concerns

Refuting claims that four vessels were left unattended due to B'Odogwu system failures, Comptroller Daniyan clarified that all challenges raised by agents have been addressed through stakeholder engagements and an implementation support team.

“To ensure trade facilitation, the command has gone the extra mile by applying manual methods to process cargoes and coordinating with terminal operators to accommodate port users who have already made entries on the platform,” Daniyan explained.

He urged agents experiencing difficulties to register on the platform and seek assistance from the implementation team.

No Going Back to NICIS II

The Customs Controller emphasized that the PTML Command has fully transitioned to the B'Odogwu platform, marking the end of the NICIS II era in the area.

"B'Odogwu is a Nigerian baby that needs our collective support to grow. We have left NICIS II and are fully focused on making this platform a success. As challenges arise, we are addressing them, ensuring our stakeholders adapt to the system," he said.

Trade Facilitation and Security

Daniyan reassured port users of continued trade facilitation while prioritizing national security and revenue generation. He noted that properly declared RoRo cargo still enjoys a two-hour turnaround time, provided compliance requirements are met.

In November alone, 292 bills of lading were successfully captured, with 375 yet to be processed. As of Wednesday, over 98 users have paid their duties via the B'Odogwu platform, a number expected to rise as more banks come on board.

Scaling Up

The B'Odogwu platform is currently being fine-tuned at PTML Command before a planned rollout to Tin Can and other ports. Daniyan expressed confidence that the system will revolutionize customs operations, enhance compliance, and significantly boost revenue collection across the country.
