Trailer Accident Causes Traffic Chaos on Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, LASTMA Urges Motorist Vigilance
The incident, involving a fully loaded trailer carrying generators and industrial machinery, occurred when the vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure while traveling at high speed. The loss of control led to the trailer toppling and obstructing the entire main carriageway, causing severe traffic gridlock.
LASTMA officials swiftly responded, diverting vehicular traffic from Anthony to the service lane near TREM Church to restore order amidst the chaos. In collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, a rescue and evacuation operation was carried out to clear the damaged trailer and its cargo from the road.
The driver of the trailer, who sustained injuries, was rescued by LASTMA personnel and received first aid at the scene. Security operatives from Pedro Police Station also provided support to maintain safety and order during the operation.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved in managing the incident and expressed relief that no lives were lost. He extended sympathies to the injured driver and emphasized the importance of road safety.
“This unfortunate incident highlights the critical need for motorists to observe traffic regulations. We urge all drivers to adhere to speed limits and conduct regular vehicle inspections, especially of their braking systems, to prevent such avoidable accidents,” Bakare-Oki stated.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow and the safety of all road users in Lagos State.
