FRSC, Fire Service Partner to Curb Tanker Crashes, Fire Outbreaks

Abuja, Nigeria – In a bid to tackle the rising incidents of tanker crashes and fire outbreaks on Nigerian roads, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) have entered into a strategic partnership focused on training, enforcement, and data sharing.

A statement released by the FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), revealed that the collaboration aims to enhance emergency response and reduce fire-related crashes nationwide.

The agreement was formalized at the FRSC headquarters by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed and the Controller-General of the FFS, Engr. Jaji Olola Abdulganiyu. This milestone marks a significant step toward ensuring safer road transportation and mitigating the risks associated with fire outbreaks from crashes.

During the meeting, Controller-General Abdulganiyu emphasized the FFS’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the partnership would strengthen the country’s emergency response capabilities. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would yield positive results in reducing fire-related accidents on highways.

In his remarks, Corps Marshal Mohammed reiterated FRSC’s dedication to road safety, stressing that the partnership represents a proactive approach to addressing transportation challenges. He highlighted that by pooling expertise and resources, both agencies would enhance their ability to prevent and respond swiftly to road crashes involving fire.

As part of the collaboration, personnel from both agencies will undergo joint training on fire prevention, firefighting, and emergency response. Additionally, the agreement includes improved data sharing, joint patrols, and enforcement of fire safety regulations, including ensuring that vehicles, especially tankers, are equipped with functional fire extinguishers.

By leveraging their collective strengths, the FRSC and FFS are set to significantly improve road safety across Nigeria. This partnership not only sets a precedent for interagency cooperation but also underscores the importance of unified efforts in addressing national safety challenges.
