Glo-Sponsored African Voices Changemakers Hosts Hollywood Star, Djimon Hounsou
Hounsou, who was born in Benin Republic in April 1960, will engage with programme anchor Larry Madowo in an inspiring conversation about his illustrious journey in Hollywood and his efforts to reconnect the Black diaspora with its roots. This mission is championed through the Djimon Hounsou Foundation, which he established in New York in 2019.
The award-winning actor began his career in the 1990 film Without You, I’m Nothing and gained global recognition for his standout performances in Amistad (1997), Gladiator (2000), and the French film Forces Spéciales (2011), among others. His incredible talent has earned him numerous accolades, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama and the NAACP Image Award in 1998 for his role in Amistad. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2004 and won the Outstanding Performance Award for his role in Blood Diamond in 2007.
Through his foundation, Hounsou has been actively empowering Africans with initiatives such as Run Richmond 16.19, a programme that celebrates African heritage while fostering unity among the African diaspora. His philanthropic efforts continue to bridge history, culture, and community.
African Voices Changemakers will air on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with a repeat broadcast at noon. Additional repeats will be shown on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Monday at 4 a.m. Viewers can also catch repeat editions of the episode next week on the same schedule.
