Governor Soludo Sets Record Straight on Support for Nnamdi Kanu's Release

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has dismissed claims suggesting his reluctance to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). These allegations, according to the Anambra State government, were fabricated by opposition politicians attempting to undermine the governor's credibility amidst his impressive developmental strides.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the government described the claims as "deliberate misinformation" aimed at tarnishing Governor Soludo's image. The governor, according to the release, has consistently shown commitment to peace and stability in the South East and has taken concrete steps toward securing Kanu's release.

Governor Soludo, in his pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the region's challenges, initiated an administrative bail for Kanu, believing that his release could contribute significantly to restoring calm in the region. However, he also expressed concerns over the criminalization of the Biafra agitation by certain elements who have hijacked the movement for their own gain, engaging in kidnapping, robbery, ritual killings, and other crimes under its guise.

To address these issues, the Soludo administration is set to launch Operation Udo Ga-Achi (Operation Peace Shall Reign) in January, a robust security initiative aimed at tackling criminal activities across Anambra State.

Governor Soludo's proactive stance on security and development has been praised as a continuation of his track record of exceeding campaign promises within three years of his administration. This is evidenced by his infrastructural and transformational efforts that have positioned Anambra as a model state in Nigeria.

The statement further highlighted that Governor Soludo was among the first Igbo leaders to visit Nnamdi Kanu in Kuje prison in 2017, calling for his unconditional release. His ongoing commitment to Kanu’s freedom reflects his broader vision for peace and prosperity in the South East.

As the administration intensifies efforts to curb insecurity and restore stability, the governor urged citizens to disregard false narratives and support government initiatives aimed at fostering a safer and more prosperous Anambra State.
