LASTMA Partners with Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria on Parking and Traffic Management

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has initiated a strategic dialogue with the Lagos Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to address parking and traffic challenges around church premises, particularly in Okokomaiko, Lagos.

The meeting, held at LASTMA Headquarters and chaired by the agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, focused on fostering collaboration to enhance traffic flow and compliance with traffic regulations.

Mr. Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to its statutory responsibility of regulating and managing traffic in Lagos State. He emphasized that the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 is universally applicable and will be enforced impartially, irrespective of religious affiliations.

“Traffic management in Lagos State transcends religious or cultural considerations,” Bakare-Oki said. He also highlighted the deployment of Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) devices by LASTMA personnel to enhance real-time enforcement and reduce confrontations with traffic violators.

Representing the PFN, Apostle Phillip Alade, Director of Security for the Lagos Chapter, commended LASTMA for its efforts in maintaining order on Lagos roads. However, he raised concerns about instances where vehicles belonging to church members were allegedly booked by TMS cameras for traffic infractions around church premises, despite claims of compliance.

The PFN delegation proposed greater collaboration between the fellowship and LASTMA to address these issues, especially during church services. They suggested joint initiatives to improve traffic management and foster mutual understanding.

In response, LASTMA and PFN resolved to establish a joint committee tasked with addressing the concerns raised. The committee will also focus on training church members on best practices for traffic management, ensuring improved compliance and cooperation.

This partnership underscores LASTMA’s commitment to engaging stakeholders and maintaining efficient traffic flow across Lagos.

Emeka Okpala, and Pastor Victor Nwajagu.
