Murtala Muhammed Area Command Records N180.75 Billion Revenue in 2024

Lagos, Nigeria – The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has released its performance report for the year 2024, highlighting remarkable achievements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and stakeholder engagement.

Revenue Performance

Speaking on the command’s financial performance, the Controller, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, disclosed that the command generated a record-breaking revenue of N180,750,786,844.36 in 2024. This represents a 99.89% increase from the N90,426,185,447.01 recorded in 2023.

The revenue collected also surpassed the 2024 target of N179,739,241,526.36 by over N1 billion, further demonstrating the command’s efficiency in enforcing government fiscal policies.

"This achievement is a testament to our commitment to excellence and our dedication to enforcing customs regulations while facilitating legitimate trade," Comptroller Awe stated.

Major Anti-Smuggling Seizures

In its ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and protect national security, the command intercepted a variety of prohibited items, including:

• 21 packages of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride
• 50 rounds of 9mm live ammunition
• 54 packages of military hardware
• 46 packages of dried sea cucumber
• 3 packages of dried donkey male genitals
• 55 pieces of Jojef Tomahawk semi-automatic rifles
• 50 packages of dried Canadian cannabis
• 225 pieces of drones
• 250 pieces of turtles
• 1 package of pangolin skin
• 1 package of porcupine, thorns, and mineral stones

The seized items had a cumulative duty-paid value (DPV) of N10.5 billion, reinforcing the command’s unwavering resolve to prevent the importation of illicit goods.

Stakeholder Engagement and Commitment to Excellence

Comptroller Awe emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media, stating that these partnerships have been instrumental in the command’s success.

"We remain committed to engaging stakeholders, blocking revenue leakages, and ensuring trade facilitation while upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism," he affirmed.

He also expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), for his leadership and support, as well as to the officers of the command for their dedication.

Looking ahead, Comptroller Awe assured that the command would continue to enhance its operations and strategies to surpass future revenue targets while ensuring compliance with customs laws.

"We are confident that with the continued support of stakeholders and the dedication of our officers, we will achieve even greater success in the coming year," he concluded.
