Anambra Health Sector Revolution: Soludo Delivers Modern General Hospital in Okpoko

Governor Charles Soludo has fulfilled a major campaign promise by constructing a state-of-the-art general hospital in the Okpoko community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. This initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery across the state.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the newly built hospital is equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities, including a well-furnished eye care unit. Dr. Chinasa Eze from the Ophthalmology Unit confirmed that the hospital’s eye care division is now fully equipped to provide advanced treatment to improve vision health in the community. Additionally, Governor Soludo has approved free antenatal services for pregnant women in Okpoko, ensuring better maternal and child healthcare access.

Governor Soludo’s efforts in transforming Anambra’s healthcare sector have earned him national recognition. Recently, he was awarded as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole. The awards were conferred by the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF.

In his ongoing push for infrastructural development, the governor has upgraded multiple primary healthcare centers, constructed five new general hospitals, and ensured they are well-equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and skilled personnel. His administration has also employed 1,000 additional health workers, including doctors, nurses, consultants, pharmacists, and medical laboratory technicians, while introducing telemedicine for improved healthcare solutions.

Anambra State received a total of $1,200,000 in grants for its healthcare excellence—$500,000 for its leadership in the Southeast and $700,000 for overall performance in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.

Beyond healthcare, Governor Soludo’s visionary governance has propelled Anambra to the fourth position in BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report, reflecting strong fiscal sustainability and overall economic performance.
