Anambra State Implements New Security Measures to Strengthen Public Safety

Awka, Anambra State – The Anambra State government, under the leadership of Governor Charles Soludo, has introduced a series of new security measures aimed at enhancing the safety of residents and visitors across the state.

The directives, issued through the Office of the Special Adviser on Community Security, target hotel owners, landlords, town union leaders, and the general public. These measures include stricter identification requirements, enhanced tenant verification, and a whistleblowing policy with financial incentives for reporting criminal activities.

Stricter Security Guidelines for Hotels

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, all hotel guests must now present a valid government-issued identity card, such as a national ID, international passport, or voter’s card, upon check-in. Hotel management is required to photocopy these documents and submit them to the President General (PG) of the community, who will then forward the information to the local government mayor and the state government.

Failure to comply with this directive will result in the forfeiture of the hotel facility and possible prosecution.

New Rules for Landlords and Tenants

Similarly, landlords and landladies are now required to obtain a tenant verification form from their community’s President General. This form must be completed with the tenant’s government-issued identification and submitted to the state government. Non-compliance will attract severe penalties, including property forfeiture and legal action.

Enhanced Role for Town Union Leaders

The government has also strengthened the role of town union leaders in community security. Under the new directive, all President Generals of town unions will serve as the chairmen of the Agunaechemba security committee in their respective communities. They are responsible for overseeing security operations and submitting monthly reports to the state government. Any leader who fails in these duties risks suspension or further sanctions.

Whistleblowing Policy with Financial Rewards

In a bid to encourage public participation in crime prevention, the state government has introduced a whistleblowing policy. Citizens who provide credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers or other criminals will receive a cash reward of at least ₦5 million.

Governor Soludo’s administration has urged all citizens, business owners, and community leaders to cooperate with these new security measures to ensure the protection of lives and property across Anambra State.
