CONMMEP Elects New Executive, Udo Onyeka Emerges President

Lagos, Nigeria – February 27, 2025 – The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has elected a new executive team, with Comrade Udo Onyeka, Publisher of News Business, emerging as President in a keenly contested election.

Onyeka, who previously served as Vice President, takes over from Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, who successfully led the organization for the past three years.

Onyeka Pledges Accountability, Professionalism

In his acceptance speech, Onyeka expressed gratitude to members for their support and pledged to lead with transparency, professionalism, and a focus on welfare. He assured members that his administration would work toward elevating CONMMEP to greater heights.

"I am committed to fostering unity and ensuring that this organization continues to thrive through accountability and professionalism. Together, we will take CONMMEP to new levels of productivity," Onyeka said.

Outgoing President Calls for Unity

Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, the outgoing President, commended members for their peaceful participation in the election and urged the new leadership to sustain the harmony and unity within the organization.

Contested Positions and Election Highlights

The election saw Udo Onyeka defeating Dili Nicholas Utomi in the presidential race, while Femi Okonofua won the vice-presidential seat, defeating Ms. Ann Ejuka.

Other positions, such as the PRO, were uncontested, with Mcanthony Onuoha returning to the role. Additionally, Alfred Omenihu stepped down, allowing Bolaji Israel to emerge as General Secretary unopposed.

The election process was widely praised for its transparency, orderliness, and commitment to democratic principles, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to ethical journalism and maritime industry advocacy.
