Dangote Coal, Host Communities Sign Landmark Development Agreement

Benue State, Nigeria – February 27, 2025 – Dangote Coal Mines Limited and its host communities in Okpokwu Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, have signed a landmark Community Development Agreement (CDA), marking a significant step toward infrastructure development and social welfare in the region.

Government officials and stakeholders present at the signing ceremony described the agreement as a "major milestone", emphasizing its potential to enhance peace and foster sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of Dangote Coal, Mr. Nuhu Elujah hailed the agreement as a "breakthrough in our effort to touch lives," stating that it provides a clear framework for the company's social responsibility initiatives in the Abache Community and other host areas.

As part of the agreement, Dangote Coal will execute key projects in education, roads, healthcare, and water infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to improving living standards in the communities.

Ms. Bimbo Adams, who represented the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, described the pact as the beginning of a "new era for peace and development." She noted that such partnerships between private enterprises and host communities are essential for national progress.

The Ward Head of Ugbokolo, Chief Emmanuel Ikom, commended Dangote Coal for its ongoing projects across the three host communities, urging the company to sustain its development initiatives.

Similarly, Mr. Sunday Onoko Aluh, speaking on behalf of the Abache community, expressed gratitude to Dangote Coal Mines Limited for its dedication to community welfare. He assured that the host communities would maintain a peaceful relationship with the company to ensure steady development.

Traditional leaders at the event applauded Dangote Coal for its numerous social interventions, describing the CDA as a "win-win" arrangement for all stakeholders.

The signing of the agreement reaffirms Dangote Coal's commitment to fostering long-term socio-economic growth in Benue State, aligning with national efforts to drive sustainable development in mining communities.
