Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Takes Action on Environmental Sanitation, Cleans Up Abijo Market and Warike Bus Stop

In a bid to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, through its Environmental Health Services Department, conducted a major sanitation exercise at Abijo Market and Warike Bus Stop. The operation was led by the Chief Technical Adviser on Environment, Mr. Ajumobi Lateef, in collaboration with the Technical Assistant on the Cleaner Ibeju-Lekki Initiative, Ogbeni Jamiu Olawale, the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Alhaji Adebanjo, and Mr. Abass Lateef of the Environmental Services Department.

During the exercise, officials discovered a significant accumulation of waste along the highway median directly opposite Abijo Market. This led to the temporary closure of the market to address the situation effectively. Market traders were engaged in a constructive dialogue, where they were introduced to the Garbage Collection Tricycle, popularly known as "Keke Jaja." Officials advised them to utilize this service and employ security personnel to curb indiscriminate waste dumping within the market vicinity.

The clean-up operation was executed successfully, demonstrating the commitment of the Hon. Olowa-led administration to environmental sustainability. The initiative will extend to other parts of the Council Area as part of ongoing efforts to uphold a clean and hygienic environment.
