IGP Egbetokun Appoints DCP Osifo Tony Emefile as New Force Director of Sports
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Osifo Tony Emefile, psc, fsi, as the new Director of Sports for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The announcement was made by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) on Wednesday, February 14, 2025.
DCP Emefile succeeds Commissioner of Police (CP) Patrick A. Atayero, MSc, MBA, psc, who was appointed as Force Director of Sports on March 26, 2020. CP Atayero played a pivotal role in advancing sports development within the NPF, particularly following the successful conclusion of the 12th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) held in Anambra in 2020. Under his leadership, the NPF solidified its status as a strong pillar of Nigerian sports, recording remarkable achievements over the years.
DCP Osifo Tony Emefile brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A former ace striker for the Police Machine Football Club, he was the recipient of the 1993/1994 Bournvita Award for highest goal scorer. He has also served as a Board Member of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (2013–2017), the pioneer Chairperson of the Police Scrabble Association, and the current Chairman of the Police Athletics Association. Additionally, he has chaired the Technical Sub-Committee for the 13th and 14th BIPOGAs and currently represents the Force as a Security Consultant on the League Management Committee for the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The IGP congratulated the newly appointed Director of Sports and encouraged him to build upon the successes of his predecessor to further enhance sports development within the Nigeria Police Force.
