LASTMA, LASAMBUS Rescue 14 Victims in Third Mainland Bridge Crash

A swift intervention by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) saved 14 lives following a severe accident on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The accident occurred at Ilaje, inward Iyana-Oworonshoki, and involved a Mazda commercial bus (XN 997 KTU) and a Toyota Yaris (11150 DLA). According to eyewitnesses, reckless speeding caused the commercial bus driver to lose control, colliding forcefully with the moving Toyota Yaris.

Rapid Emergency Response

LASTMA officials, in collaboration with LASAMBUS, swiftly responded to the scene, extricating 14 victims, including the driver of the commercial bus, from the wreckage. Security personnel from Alonge Police Station also provided tactical support to ensure an orderly and secure rescue operation.

Following the successful evacuation, LASAMBUS transported the injured individuals to Gbagada General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities Warn Against Reckless Driving

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent avoidable road crashes.

“This tragic accident highlights the urgent need for both commercial and private motorists to obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly,” he stated.

He extended his sympathies to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the critical role of emergency response teams in saving lives.
