Maritime Journalists to Honour Customs CG Bashir Adeniyi on February 13
The highly anticipated award dinner will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, starting at 6 PM.
The event, the first of its kind in the Nigerian maritime sector, was initially scheduled for January 16 but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Adeniyi will be recognized as the "Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024", a decision unanimously endorsed by maritime journalists from across various media platforms.
The honour is being conferred by all maritime beat associations, including:
- Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN)
- League of Maritime Editors (LOME)
- Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON)
- Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN)
- Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP)
- Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN)
- Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN)
- Independent maritime journalists
Adeniyi’s selection for the award is based on his remarkable achievements since assuming office, including:
- Record-breaking revenue collection
- Anti-smuggling operations
- Trade facilitation
- National security initiatives
- Staff welfare improvements
- Enhanced inter-agency collaboration
- Infrastructure development
- ICT advancements
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects
In addition to these accomplishments, maritime journalists also recognize his consistent support for the media, particularly within the maritime sector.
The award, organizers say, is not only a tribute to Adeniyi’s performance but also a message to other government agencies and their leaders that the Nigerian maritime press remains vigilant in monitoring industry developments.
