Nigeria Immigration Service Appoints ACI Akinlabi as New Public Relations Officer

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), K.N. Nandap, has approved the appointment of Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) A.S. Akinlabi as the new Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO).

According to a statement signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the Comptroller General, CIS A.A. Aridegbe, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), Akinlabi’s appointment follows the redeployment of his predecessor, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration K.T. Udo, who has been posted as Passport Control Officer to the Akwa Ibom State Command.

ACI Akinlabi, a native of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State, brings extensive experience to his new role. He holds a BSc in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 2003 and 2015, respectively. He is also a distinguished fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.

Having joined the NIS on December 29, 2006, Akinlabi completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano, in December 2007. Over the years, he has attended numerous specialized courses in migration, security, and border management.

His career spans key positions across various NIS directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and Travel Documents. Notably, he was part of the pioneering staff of the NIS Contact Centre and later became Second-in-Command at the SERVICOM Unit, which directly interfaces with public relations activities.

Until his latest appointment, ACI Akinlabi served as an Immigration Attaché at the Embassy of Nigeria in The Hague, Netherlands. His wealth of experience is expected to enhance the NIS’s public engagement and image projection.

His appointment takes immediate effect.
