Bayo Adeyinka Secures Freedom for Eight Inmates, Donates Medical Supplies to Mark 50th Birthday
In a significant act of compassion, banker, author, and pastor Bayo Adeyinka facilitated the release of eight inmates from the Ikoyi Correctional Center, Lagos, as part of his 50th birthday celebration. Adeyinka, widely known as "Greater Bayo" on social media, paid the fines of the inmates during a prison outreach initiative aimed at restoring hope and freedom.
The brief ceremony took place on Saturday, March 29, 2024, at the Catholic chapel within the correctional facility. Addressing an audience comprising inmates, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) officials, friends, and family, Adeyinka explained that the outreach was inspired by the biblical concept of the "Year of Jubilee," which symbolizes freedom.
“According to the Bible, every 50th year is known as the Year of Jubilee, which signifies liberation. It is my honor to facilitate the release of eight of our brothers today through the payment of their fines in commemoration of my 50th birthday,” Adeyinka stated. He further revealed that proceeds from the sales of his recently launched books, along with gifts and donations from his birthday celebration, were dedicated to funding the initiative.
Beyond securing their release, Adeyinka extended his philanthropic efforts by donating essential medical supplies to the facility’s clinic. The donations included antibiotics, anti-malarial drugs, painkillers, blood boosters, and syringes. Additionally, he provided sanitary pads for 268 female inmates at the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre, ensuring their needs were met for the rest of the year.
The initiative was met with heartfelt gratitude from both inmates and correctional officers. Before leaving, Adeyinka advised the freed individuals to embrace a reformed path and "pay the kindness forward." To aid their reintegration, he also provided each released inmate with ₦20,000 for transportation and immediate expenses.
Adeyinka’s outreach underscores his commitment to social impact, seamlessly integrating faith, philanthropy, and practical support to uplift those in need.
