ABUJA – The Office of the First Lady of Nigeria has responded to a viral video showing students chanting during Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to Delta State, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to student discipline.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, during the Renewed Hope Initiative’s donation of 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the South-South zone. The event aimed to motivate midwives and support efforts to reduce infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on March 28, 2025, Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, acknowledged the enthusiastic reception from the Delta State Government, healthcare professionals, and student nurses. She noted that while institutions have the right to uphold discipline, students often express excitement in a playful manner.

"It has come to our attention that some students of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences have been queried over their participation in the chants," the statement read. "While discipline is important, educational institutions should also create an environment where students feel safe to express themselves while maintaining decorum."

The Office of the First Lady urged school authorities to handle the situation with fairness, ensuring that students thrive in a supportive learning environment.
