FirstBank Dismisses Fraud Allegations, Calls Claims Baseless  

Lagos, March 14, 2025 – FirstBank of Nigeria has refuted allegations of fraud leveled against it in a recent publication by ThisDay Newspaper, Arise Television, and a circulating video. The allegations stem from a legal case filed by a customer, Dr. Agbai Eke, against the bank.  

In an official statement, FirstBank described the claims as “entirely unfounded and false,” clarifying that its internal findings point to unauthorized dealings between Dr. Agbai Eke and a former bank employee. The bank emphasized that these transactions were conducted outside its knowledge or involvement, facilitated through a personal relationship rather than official banking procedures.  

> “The matter is currently before the Court, and we will refrain from further comments to allow due legal process to take its course,”the statement read.  

The bank also confirmed that it has reported the case to law enforcement authorities for a full investigation. It stated that the suspects involved have provided useful statements, and investigations are actively ongoing.
