Glo Foundation Distributes Food, Essentials to Thousands in Ilaje-Bariga

Thousands of residents in Ilaje-Bariga, Lagos, received food and essential items on Saturday, courtesy of the Glo Foundation, a corporate social responsibility initiative by Globacom.

The foundation partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to combat food insecurity, kicking off a nationwide food distribution program aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians.

The food packs, which included rice, garri, spaghetti, noodles, tomato paste, vegetable oil, sardines, seasoning cubes, salt, and toiletries, were distributed at the Love Lagos Jetty. The initiative brought relief to the community, with many beneficiaries—mostly women—expressing joy and appreciation for the intervention.

Commitment to Fighting Hunger

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Adejumobi Mofe-Damijo, Globacom’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to alleviating hardship in communities across Nigeria.

"Glo Foundation is committed to initiatives that positively impact lives. This food drive is just the beginning, as we plan to extend the outreach to other states in the federation," she stated.

She also commended Globacom staff for their dedication to charitable giving, which contributed significantly to the success of the initiative.

Call for Corporate Support

The Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Michael Sunbola, praised Globacom for its investment in the food relief project and encouraged other corporate organizations to support similar efforts.

"We are proud to collaborate with Globacom on this. This pilot phase has been a success, and we look forward to reaching more communities across the country," he said.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Several recipients shared their appreciation for the initiative, noting that it came at a critical time amid economic hardship.

• Abiola Oladunjoye, an unemployed woman, described the food pack as a divine provision and prayed for the continued success of Globacom.
• Amarachi Peter, a cook, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention.
• Eunice Kehinde, a hairdresser, remarked, “It is not easy to feed these days. With this food pack from Glo, my family is assured of meals for some weeks.”

Next Stop for Glo Foundation

Following the successful distribution in Ilaje-Bariga, the Glo Foundation train is set to visit another Lagos community next Saturday, continuing its mission to support underprivileged families nationwide.
