Lagos Commissioner for Transportation Visits Otedola Bridge Explosion Site, Stresses Safety Compliance
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has reiterated the importance of safety consciousness following a gas tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge. The incident, which occurred two days ago, prompted an on-site assessment by the commissioner and his team.
During the visit, Osiyemi emphasized that the tragic accident resulted from a violation of road safety regulations. Despite clear signage prohibiting truck movement in the area, the driver of the ill-fated tanker ignored the restriction, leading to the devastating inferno on Tuesday night.
He further disclosed that the state government will intensify technical safety measures to prevent future occurrences. The assessment team also evaluated the impact of the explosion beyond transport infrastructure, inspecting structural cracks on the bridge and surrounding facilities to determine their integrity.
Osiyemi urged heavy-duty vehicle drivers to strictly adhere to safety standards and cooperate with government regulations to prevent similar disasters. He reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to a safer and more resilient transportation system that prioritizes the protection of lives and property.
Government’s Continued Commitment to Safety
The Lagos State Government continues to implement strict traffic regulations and enforcement strategies to improve road safety. With ongoing efforts to enhance monitoring systems and deploy advanced safety infrastructure, authorities are working towards a zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations that endanger public safety.
Residents and transport operators are encouraged to support these initiatives by reporting violations and adhering to established road safety rules.
