Lagos State Begins Redevelopment of Oregun Theatre

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has commenced the redevelopment of the Lagos Theatre in Oregun, reinforcing its commitment to promoting arts, culture, and the creative economy.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, marking the official commencement of the reconstruction of the vandalized facility.

Speaking at the event, Benson-Awoyinka emphasized that the reconstruction aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for the state’s creative sector. She noted that the world-class facility would serve as a hub for artistic performances, cultural exhibitions, and talent development.

“This project is a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering dedication to the creative economy. The Lagos Theatre, Oregun, will not only revitalize artistic expression but also provide a dynamic space for cultural showcases and talent development,” she stated.

The redevelopment of the theatre is part of the administration’s broader strategy to enhance the creative sector under the THEMES+ agenda, ensuring Lagos remains a leading cultural and entertainment hub in Africa.
