Lagos Taskforce Seizes 79 Okadas in Ongoing Ban Enforcement

Lagos, March 12, 2025 – The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its crackdown on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, as part of ongoing enforcement of the state’s ban on their operation on highways and restricted routes.

In a routine enforcement exercise conducted on March 12, 2025, Taskforce operatives visited several locations, including Berger Suya, Kirikiri Road, 2nd Rainbow Bridge, and Apple Junction inward Festac.

During the operation, a total of 79 commercial motorcycles were impounded across all the areas covered.

Minimal Resistance, Maximum Professionalism

The enforcement exercise was largely smooth and incident-free, except for minor resistance at Berger Suya, where a few individuals attempted to disrupt the operation. However, Taskforce officers swiftly managed the situation with minimal force and tactical superiority, ensuring order was maintained.

Speaking on the operation, CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman/Commander of the Lagos State Taskforce, emphasized that the exercise was carried out with the highest level of civility and professionalism.

“The enforcement will continue until full compliance is achieved. Our goal is to ensure safer roads and adherence to the laws governing transportation in Lagos State,” Akerele stated.

The Lagos State government has maintained that the ban on Okada operations in restricted areas is aimed at reducing road accidents, criminal activities, and traffic congestion. The Taskforce has vowed to sustain the enforcement drive, urging residents to comply with the directive.
