NDLEA Intercepts Indian Woman with 72 Parcels of Heroin at Kano Airport
Recovers Tramadol in Gas Cylinder, Cocaine, and Skunk in Nationwide Raids
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 42-year-old Indian woman, Ms. Neetu Neetu, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for attempting to smuggle 72 parcels of heroin disguised as chocolate.
The illicit drug consignment, weighing 11 kilograms, was discovered in Neetu’s luggage during an inward clearance operation on Friday, March 14, 2025. She had arrived aboard Qatar Airways flight QR1431 from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha.
Reacting to the arrest, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), warned that drug traffickers were increasingly hiring foreign nationals to move illicit substances. However, he assured that NDLEA operatives, equipped with modern technology and intelligence, remain vigilant in frustrating such attempts.
Major Drug Seizures in Kano and Lagos
In another major operation in Kano on Thursday, March 20, NDLEA officers apprehended Michael Ogundele, 45, along Zaria-Kano Road with a 50-litre steel gas cylinder containing 50,000 tramadol pills (225mg). The drugs were extracted after operatives cut open the cylinder using welding tools.
Additionally, on Wednesday, March 19, operatives arrested Sunday Ogar, 40, in Gunduwawa, Kano, with 27kg of skunk (a potent cannabis strain), while Khadijah Abdullahi, 40, was caught with 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup in the Lungun Bulala Yalwa area on Tuesday, March 18.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa in Mushin with 67.5kg of skunk, while another 100.8kg of the same substance was recovered from a store belonging to two fleeing suspects in Anifowoshe, Mushin.
Meanwhile, Isah Idris was apprehended in Apapa with 4.5kg of skunk, 600 grams of tramadol (225mg), and 30 liters of codeine syrup on Tuesday, March 18. On the same day, Yahaya Mohamed was arrested in Ikotun, Lagos, in possession of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.
Nationwide Anti-Drug Advocacy Intensifies
Beyond enforcement, NDLEA has continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns in schools, markets, workplaces, and worship centers across the country. Some of the schools engaged in the past week include:
