Two Pakistanis Arrested for Leading Notorious Kidnapping Gang in Lagos

Lagos – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two Pakistani nationals allegedly behind a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in the state. The suspects, identified as Roman Gull (19) and Aftab Ahmad (28), were apprehended following a swift response by the police, while five other members of the gang remain at large.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest was made in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to eliminate kidnapping and violent crimes nationwide.

How the Kidnappers Lured Their Victim

The police disclosed that the kidnapping plot was executed under false pretenses. The suspects allegedly lured a 48-year-old Pakistani national from Kano to Lagos with the promise of a job as a chef.

Upon arrival on February 28, 2025, the victim was lodged in a hotel. The following day, the gang overpowered him, tied his hands and legs, and demanded a ₦50 million ransom from his employer in Kano, threatening to kill him if the money was not paid.

To buy time, the victim’s employer transferred ₦1 million to the kidnappers before alerting the police.

Swift Police Response and Rescue Operation

A distress call was received at the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command on March 5, 2025. Officers from the anti-crime patrol unit swiftly acted, leading to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of two suspects.

Among the items recovered from the kidnappers were:

A grey Toyota Camry used for their operations
The victim’s $2,000 cash
Three ATM cards
A green card
A driver’s license
A National Identification Number (NIN) slip

The police have launched a manhunt for the five remaining suspects who managed to escape.

Victim in Good Condition as Police Vow to Ensure Security

The rescued victim is reported to be in good health and has reestablished contact with his family.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their swift response and assured Lagos residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to security.

"We will not relent in our efforts to rid Lagos State of criminal elements. Residents and visitors can rest assured that their safety remains our top priority," he stated.

The arrested suspects are set to face prosecution upon completion of investigations.
