First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Renewed Commitment in Fight Against Malaria on World Malaria Day 2025

Abuja, Nigeria – April 25, 2025 –
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for urgent and sustained action against malaria as Nigeria joins the global community to mark World Malaria Day 2025.

In her message, Senator Tinubu described malaria not merely as a public health issue, but as a national emergency, noting that Nigeria bears the highest burden of the disease worldwide. She emphasized the need for intensified efforts to reverse this alarming trend.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” the First Lady said it serves as both a rallying cry and a message of hope. She urged all stakeholders to renew investments in life-saving interventions, raise public awareness, and rekindle the collective commitment required to eliminate malaria.

Senator Tinubu also highlighted the importance of environmental hygiene in malaria prevention. She advised Nigerians to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate stagnant water, which serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

“I urge all government agencies, private sector partners, NGOs, health workers, and community leaders to recommit to the fight against malaria with urgency and resolve," she said. "Malaria ends with us, with our voices, our choices, and our actions.”

World Malaria Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the disease and to encourage action towards its elimination. Nigeria remains at the center of global efforts to tackle malaria, making the First Lady’s call to action especially significant.
