IGP Egbetokun Condemns Plateau Killings, Orders Massive Police Deployment

— Two Suspects Arrested as Police Intensify Operations to Restore Peace

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as “senseless” and “a grave assault on peace and national security.” This came during his visit to the crisis-stricken state on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives, the IGP expressed his condolences to the families affected and vowed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will bring the perpetrators to justice. He labelled the attacks as utterly reprehensible and assured residents of the Force's commitment to restoring calm and safety across the affected communities.

According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, preliminary investigations have led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killings in Bokkos Local Government Area. The suspects are currently assisting with further investigations as security operatives continue to unravel the motives behind the violence and track down other accomplices.

Following his visit, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, mni, to take charge of field operations. DIG Yakubu has since led aerial surveillance of Bokkos and Bassa LGAs and is engaging with community stakeholders to reassure them of the police’s presence and commitment to peacebuilding.

In a decisive move to stabilize the region, the IGP ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel and resources to Plateau State. This reinforcement is aimed at enhancing rapid response operations, strengthening intelligence gathering, and intensifying patrols in high-risk areas.

“The safety of every citizen in Plateau State is of utmost importance,” IGP Egbetokun emphasized, adding that on-the-ground assessments are currently underway to determine the most strategic deployment of the new resources.

Residents of Plateau State are urged to remain calm, support the efforts of security agencies, and share any useful information that could aid investigations.

The IGP extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed the NPF’s unwavering commitment to restoring law and order. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Plateau State. Justice will be served,” he assured.
