Mob Violence Erupts in Kaduna After Woman Allegedly Caught in Romantic Act With Female Friend

 Tension gripped the Mando area of Kaduna State on Thursday evening following a violent mob incident sparked by allegations of a same-sex encounter between two women.

The unrest began when Taiwo Janet, a 46-year-old married woman, was allegedly discovered in an intimate situation with her longtime female friend. According to eyewitnesses, Janet’s husband reportedly returned home unexpectedly and found the two women in a compromising position.

The husband is said to have reacted violently, physically assaulting his wife. Her cries for help reportedly attracted neighbors and local youths, quickly escalating the situation into a mob attack.

While Janet’s companion managed to escape through a window, Janet herself was beaten by the crowd. Witnesses said attempts by some residents to hand her over to the authorities were ignored, as the mob acted in anger and shock.

A commercial tricycle operator passing through the area reportedly intervened and helped rescue Janet from the crowd. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later reported to have fled the facility shortly after regaining consciousness.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. Authorities have condemned the mob action and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands.

“We are actively investigating the matter and urge residents to remain calm. Any acts of violence or unlawful behavior will be dealt with according to the law,” a police spokesperson said.

Community reactions have been mixed, with some expressing outrage over the alleged act, while others have called for calm and due process. Local sources indicate that family members and community leaders are demanding traditional rites and oaths aimed at restoring honor to the family.

The incident has ignited conversations across Kaduna about cultural norms, gender identity, and the rising concerns over mob justice.

Police are urging anyone with information on Janet’s whereabouts to come forward as investigations continue. Security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further disturbances.
