Oyo Government Pays N264 Million Compensation to Property Owners Affected by Circular Road Project

Ibadan, Oyo State – April 10, 2025
The Oyo State Government has disbursed the sum of N264 million as the first batch of compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing construction of the Senator Rasheed Adewolu Circular Road in Ibadan.

The cheque presentation ceremony took place on Thursday at the conference room of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking during the event, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, noted that the compensation followed a comprehensive identification and verification exercise earlier conducted by the government. He added that property valuations were carried out to ensure transparency and fairness in the compensation process.

Hon. Williams emphasized that the initiative reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to ensuring fairness and justice for those affected by developmental projects, particularly in key infrastructural corridors like the circular road.

"The government is mindful of the impact such projects have on citizens and is determined to ensure that affected individuals are adequately compensated. This first tranche of N264 million is a testament to that resolve," the Commissioner stated.

He also encouraged other affected property owners with valid documents to approach the ministry for necessary documentation and compensation procedures.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Salawu Abiola, commended Governor Makinde for what he described as an empathetic and people-oriented leadership style. He lauded the state government for not only prioritizing infrastructure development but also recognizing the rights and contributions of citizens.

The compensation initiative is expected to pave the way for seamless progress on the circular road project, a flagship infrastructure initiative designed to ease traffic congestion and promote economic development in the state.
