Bariga Community Rejects Bukola Omofe’s Emergence, Reaffirms Support for Babatunde Adesida as LCDA Chairman

Bariga, Lagos – May 10, 2025 — Tension is brewing in Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) following widespread rejection of Bukola Omofe’s emergence as Chairman, a development many residents and party stakeholders describe as the outcome of a flawed and monetized primary election process.

Sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and eyewitnesses at the primary election venue allege that Honourable Babatunde Adesida was the declared and celebrated winner up until the early hours of Saturday, May 10. His candidacy had been endorsed by grassroots supporters and Bariga’s political leadership, having emerged through what was described as a transparent and consultative selection process.

Celebrations reportedly broke out across the LCDA after initial announcements and congratulatory calls poured in for Adesida. However, events took a dramatic turn when his name was allegedly substituted in a process many claim was orchestrated by powerful political actors using financial inducement and backdoor tactics.

At the heart of the controversy is the imposition of Bukola Omofe, who is said to hail from the same ward as both a sitting member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and an APC State Executive Committee member. This concentration of political representation in a single ward has sparked outrage, with stakeholders calling it a breach of Bariga’s longstanding zoning agreement, which aims to ensure equity, fairness, and inclusive representation.

Reacting to the development, political leaders and residents have publicly rejected Omofe’s emergence, reaffirming their support for Babatunde Adesida as the people’s choice and the legitimate Chairman-elect.

“We cannot allow injustice and imposition to override the voice of the people,” said one party elder who spoke under anonymity. “Bariga deserves fairness, and we stand firmly behind Babatunde Adesida.”

The Adesida Campaign Organization (ACO) has urged party members and supporters to remain peaceful but resolute, stating that the fight to reclaim the people’s mandate is far from over.

“It is not over until it is over. Democracy must prevail in Bariga,” the statement read.
