Dangote Applauds President Tinubu for Bold Reforms in Oil and Gas Sector
Lagos, Nigeria – May 5, 2025 — Africa’s foremost industrialist and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a revolutionary transformation in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Dangote, who recently paid a courtesy visit to the President, lauded the appointments of Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Ahmadu Musa Kida as Non-Executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), describing the leadership team as “formidable and professionally competent.”
“The new management team brings a wealth of technical expertise and managerial experience necessary to revitalise Nigeria’s most strategic public enterprise,” Dangote said. “Their appointment reflects President Tinubu’s strategic intent to drive reform and innovation in the energy sector.”
According to the billionaire entrepreneur, the Ojulari-Kida-led NNPC Limited aligns with the President’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy and is well-positioned to deliver operational excellence, sustainability, and transparency in the nation’s oil and gas industry.
Fielding questions from select media on his earlier remarks about battling to secure the survival of his $20 billion refinery, Dangote clarified that his comments were not directed at the current NNPC leadership.
“I must make it clear that the NNPCL under this new leadership has been very supportive of our efforts,” he said. “The cabals I referred to are certain oil marketers and traders who are resisting the reforms and frustrating the government's economic recovery agenda.”
Dangote noted that recent structural changes introduced by NNPC Limited have shown a strong commitment to efficiency, transparency, and accountability. He emphasized that the calibre of individuals now leading the organization gives hope for a more performance-driven oil and gas sector.
Expressing his optimism for the future of the industry, Dangote reaffirmed the Dangote Group’s commitment to collaborating with the government to realise a prosperous, energy-secure Nigeria.
