Dangote Cement Plc, Africa’s largest cement producer, has emerged as the Dividend Paying Company of the Year at the maiden edition of the Nairametrics Capital Market Choice Awards, held in Lagos.
The prestigious awards ceremony, themed “Capital Market as a Catalyst for Nigerian Economic Transformation”, celebrated companies making significant contributions to economic growth through transparency, investor value, and corporate governance.
Dangote Cement team members including Yuwana Keri (Legal), Kemi Ogunmolu (Corporate Finance), Conrad Kakulu (Legal), alongside Aduroja and Imoedemhe, pose with the award.
Dangote Cement stood out among top nominees including Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Airtel Africa, earning accolades for its consistent and robust dividend payouts to shareholders.
Temilade Aduroja, Group Head, Investor Relations at Dangote Industries Limited, received the award on behalf of the company. Speaking after the presentation, she noted, “Our commitment to paying strong dividends reflects our financial strength, disciplined capital allocation, and focus on long-term value creation. This award reinforces the trust our shareholders have placed in us.”
A review of the company’s financial performance shows a steady growth in dividend payouts. Since 2018, Dangote Cement has paid more than N10 per share annually, with payouts increasing to N16 and maintained through 2022. In 2023, the dividend rose to N20 and further to N30 per share for the 2023 financial year. The company’s board has proposed a N30 per share dividend for the year ended December 31, 2024—pending shareholder approval.
The award adds to Dangote Cement’s growing list of corporate recognitions. Recently, the company was named Platinum Award Winner at the ICAN-NGX REGCO Corporate Reporting Awards, organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and NGX Regulation Limited. The event highlighted excellence in financial reporting, corporate governance, and sustainability, with Dangote Cement emerging among top performers alongside MTN Nigeria, Seplat Energy, Zenith Bank, and others.

With a production capacity of 52 million tonnes per annum across Africa—and 35.25Mta in Nigeria alone—Dangote Cement continues to play a pivotal role in driving industrial development and job creation. Its Obajana plant in Kogi State remains Africa’s largest, while its ongoing project in Itori, Ogun State, is set to add 6Mta to its portfolio.
Through strategic investments, Dangote Cement has helped eliminate Nigeria’s reliance on imported cement, transforming the country into a net exporter of cement and clinker to West African markets.
