FG Donates 7 Modified Armoured Vehicles to Police to Strengthen National Security

Abuja, Nigeria – In a decisive move to enhance the operational capability of the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Government has handed over seven state-of-the-art Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAVs) to the Force.

The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, officially presented the vehicles to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, during a ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

The handover is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to equip the police with modern security assets to tackle the growing challenges of crime and insecurity nationwide.

“This occasion marks a significant milestone,” Senator Gaidam stated. “These vehicles symbolize our relentless commitment to bolstering national security and empowering the Nigeria Police Force to protect lives and property across the country.”

According to the Minister, the vehicles were procured through the Ministry’s 2024 operational budget and reflect the Federal Government’s focus on strategic investment in internal security.

“One of the standout features of these LTAVs is their incorporation of local content, ensuring ease of maintenance within the country and enhancing durability in Nigeria’s unique climate and terrain,” Gaidam explained. “This design makes them not only efficient but also cost-effective and sustainable.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to the welfare and effectiveness of the police, promising continued support to strengthen law enforcement capabilities.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nnia, emphasized that the procurement and delivery of the vehicles is a critical step in providing the Nigeria Police with modern tools to combat the evolving nature of crime.

“This is a testament to the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to improving the capacity and operational readiness of the Nigeria Police Force,” Nnia noted. “These vehicles will not only protect our officers but also reinforce their ability to safeguard citizens.”

Receiving the vehicles, IGP Egbetokun expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry of Police Affairs, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

“We are receiving these vital assets at a most critical time,” Egbetokun said. “They will play a significant role in boosting our operational capabilities and will be strategically deployed where they are most needed to support our anti-crime efforts.”

The donation underscores the Federal Government’s broader strategy to modernize Nigeria’s internal security framework and improve public safety across the country.
