The high-level courtesy visit, attended by the Force Management Team and senior police officers, focused on fostering stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation—particularly in the area of strategic funding to support national security operations.
During the meeting, the Accountant General acknowledged the crucial role of the Police in safeguarding internal security and stressed the importance of providing adequate financial support to enable the Force to deliver on its mandate. He reiterated his office’s statutory responsibility for managing public finances and affirmed his readiness to work towards increased and sustained funding for the Nigeria Police Force.
“With the right resources, sustained collaboration, and strategic alignment, we can achieve the vision of a more effective and professional police force that meets the expectations of all Nigerians,” Mr. Ogunjimi stated.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude for the visit, noting the critical role the Office of the Accountant General plays in ensuring the financial health of government institutions. He commended the AGF’s commitment to transparency and accountability, describing the engagement as a timely opportunity to address long-standing financial challenges confronting the Police.
“Modern policing requires sustainable and strategic funding. Without it, we cannot meet the rising expectations of the Nigerian people or effectively address today’s complex security challenges,” the IGP said. He expressed optimism that the AGF would push for reforms that would enhance the financial framework supporting police operations across the country.
The IGP reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property, adding that enhanced synergy with key institutions like the Office of the Accountant General is essential to building a well-equipped, motivated, and responsive police force.
