Interswitch, Patients Know Best Partner to Strengthen Lagos Smart Health Information Platform
LAGOS — In a strategic move to bolster the Lagos State Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP) initiative, Interswitch’s Digital Health Platform (DHP) has partnered with UK-based health tech company Patients Know Best (PKB) to enhance digital healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across the state.
The partnership, officially announced this week, represents a significant leap in the digital transformation of healthcare in Nigeria’s commercial capital. It brings together Interswitch’s robust digital infrastructure and PKB’s globally recognized personal health record (PHR) solution to create a secure and integrated Health Information Exchange (HIE) system.
The collaboration is designed to ensure real-time access to comprehensive patient data, enabling seamless sharing of information among healthcare providers in Lagos. The goal is to streamline service delivery, improve patient outcomes, and empower residents to take charge of their health through a secure, patient-centric digital ecosystem.
Speaking on the partnership, Olufemi Olapegba, Managing Director of Digital Health Platforms at Interswitch, said the initiative is part of the company’s broader mission to catalyze digital transformation in key sectors, particularly healthcare.
“This partnership with PKB underscores our vision to reshape the healthcare experience in Nigeria by leveraging global standards and cutting-edge technology. Together, we are building an interoperable and efficient health information system that will drive improved healthcare outcomes and access,” Olapegba said.
PKB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, expressed optimism about the collaboration, describing it as a game-changer for the Lagos healthcare landscape.
“Our secure and patient-focused platform enables individuals to have greater control over their medical records, while also giving healthcare professionals the tools they need to make informed, timely decisions,” Al-Ubaydli said. “This partnership sets the stage for a more connected and responsive healthcare system.”
The integrated platform—built on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards—will enable healthcare facilities across Lagos to break down traditional data silos. It allows for smoother clinical workflows, reducing administrative burdens while enhancing diagnostic accuracy and care coordination.
Residents will benefit from the ability to book appointments, pay for consultations, access health records, and purchase medications—all from the Lagos SHIP interface powered by Interswitch’s digital infrastructure.
This innovation not only aligns with global best practices in healthcare data security and interoperability but also positions Lagos as a pioneer in health technology integration on the African continent.
As digital healthcare continues to evolve, the Interswitch-PKB partnership is expected to serve as a blueprint for other Nigerian states looking to modernize their healthcare systems. It also reflects the Lagos State Government’s ongoing commitment to building a smarter, healthier, and more inclusive city through technology-driven solutions.
