LGA Election: False claim of consensus endorsement in Ojokoro LCDA stirs controversy among APC aspirants

Tensions are mounting in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) following allegations of a false consensus endorsement claim made by one of the chairmanship aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi and his supporters have come under fire for allegedly circulating a misleading narrative on social media, suggesting that he has been adopted as the APC's consensus candidate for the upcoming chairmanship election in Ojokoro LCDA. However, a coalition of other aspirants has refuted the claim, describing it as fraudulent and deceptive.

In a joint statement released by the group under the banner of "Concerned Chairmanship Aspirants, Ojokoro LCDA," they clarified that the so-called endorsement list being circulated was, in fact, merely an attendance register from a meeting with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. According to them, no agreement, vote, or consensus was reached during the meeting.

“This is nothing but a deliberate attempt to mislead party members and the general public,” the statement read. “As of today, seventeen aspirants have obtained nomination forms and remain fully committed to contesting in the party primaries.”

The statement further accused Hon. Olotu Emmanuel, a serving member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, of orchestrating the manipulation to install Mr. Sanusi as the party’s candidate. They also alleged that former House of Representatives member, Hon. James Owolabi, who recently left office, has been compromised with a ₦10 million inducement to support the scheme—an allegation the parties involved are yet to respond to.

The concerned aspirants are calling on the Lagos State leadership of the APC and relevant authorities to uphold internal democracy by conducting transparent and fair primaries in Ojokoro.

“No individual or group should be allowed to hijack the will of the people,” the group emphasized, adding that Ojokoro deserves a leadership that emerges through a credible democratic process.

They concluded with a resounding message: “Ojokoro is not for sale. Let the people choose.”
