Nigeria Customs Service Clinches Multiple NIPR Awards at 2025 Public Relations Week

…CGC Adeniyi Honoured with Diamond Lifetime Achievement and Exceptional Performance Awards

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has emerged as a standout recipient at the 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW), held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, securing top honours from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for its excellence in corporate communication and public engagement.

The NCS was awarded the Excellence in Professional Compliance – Corporate Category, in recognition of its unwavering adherence to ethical communication practices and its institutional commitment to transparency and stakeholder inclusion.

The highlight of the event was the dual recognition of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who received two prestigious individual honours from the NIPR Governing Council: the Diamond Lifetime Award for his enduring contributions to public relations and humanity, and the Diamond Prize for Exceptional Performance in Public Office for his transformative leadership within the Customs Service.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the CGC and the Service, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, who serves as the National Public Relations Officer, expressed appreciation to the NIPR for the honour. He described the awards as a validation of the Service’s ongoing communication reforms under CGC Adeniyi’s leadership.

“These recognitions affirm the CGC’s commitment to transparency and strategic public engagement,” Maiwada said. “They also highlight the collective efforts of the Service in ensuring that professionalism and effective communication remain at the core of our operations.”

Under CGC Adeniyi’s administration, the NCS has adopted modern communication strategies that emphasise clarity, trust-building, and timely information dissemination, significantly enhancing the Service’s reputation both locally and internationally.

In its official citation, the NIPR praised CGC Adeniyi as a visionary reformer whose efforts have raised the bar for public relations in the public sector. The Customs Service was also commended for setting a benchmark in corporate compliance and institutional professionalism.

In a further demonstration of its commitment to professional development, ten Public Relations Officers from various Area Commands of the NCS were inducted as Associate Members of the NIPR after successfully completing a certified masterclass during the NPRW.

The awards underscore the Nigeria Customs Service’s evolving role as a transparent, responsive, and communication-driven institution in the Nigerian public sector.
