Nigeria Customs Service Concludes Workshop on New Media and Strategic Communication

Abuja, Nigeria – May 10, 2025 — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in partnership with Youth Digest, has successfully concluded a three-day hybrid workshop aimed at equipping its Public Relations personnel with modern communication skills for enhanced public engagement and institutional visibility.

The training, held from May 7 to 9 at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, brought together Command Public Relations Officers, media professionals, editors, and personnel from the Service’s PR Unit. The focus was on strengthening competencies in new media, digital content creation, strategic communication, and media innovation.

Participants engaged in intensive sessions covering editorial processes, house style development, inclusive language use, visual storytelling, design fundamentals, and relevant aspects of media law. The workshop was facilitated by a blend of seasoned journalists, communication strategists, and digital media experts.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Assistant Comptroller-General Isah Umar emphasized the crucial role of communication in the Service’s reform and modernisation agenda.

“Today marks a significant step in the professional development of our PR officers,” ACG Umar stated. “We must continue to invest in capacity building to ensure that the Nigeria Customs Service remains effective and responsive in its engagement with the public.”

Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, who actively participated throughout the training, underscored the importance of continuous learning in the evolving media landscape.

“This workshop is a timely and necessary investment. The knowledge shared here will enhance our storytelling, improve our public interface, and ultimately strengthen the image of the Service,” Maiwada said. “Let’s take these lessons back and implement them meaningfully.”

The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, celebrating the participants’ commitment to professional growth and the advancement of the NCS’s communication efforts.
