Police Trust Fund Critical to Strengthening Nigeria Police Force – Ministry of Police Affairs Perm Sec

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, has affirmed the Nigeria Police Trust Fund’s (NPTF) pivotal role in addressing key operational challenges facing the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), especially in the areas of training, welfare, and logistics.

Dr. Nlia made this known during a strategic visit by the Ministry’s management team to the NPTF Headquarters in Wuse, Abuja. The visit, he said, was aimed at deepening collaboration and reinforcing the government’s commitment to building a stronger and more effective police force.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Mr. Bolaji Kazeem, Dr. Nlia commended the Trust Fund for its strides in mobilizing resources and delivering targeted interventions that support the police.

“We firmly believe that a well-equipped, well-trained, and motivated police force is paramount to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. In this pursuit, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund stands as a crucial partner,” he stated.

Dr. Nlia noted that the Ministry had seen the real-world impact of the Fund’s interventions, citing improved training facilities and provision of vital equipment as examples. He emphasized that under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, the Ministry remains committed to enhancing the operational effectiveness of the police and aligning efforts to maximize results.

He also disclosed ongoing procurement efforts aimed at further strengthening the Force. These include the construction and rehabilitation of internal road networks in Osun State Police Command, building and equipping a 50-bed hospital for police personnel in Kebbi and Adamawa States, rehabilitation of police barracks in Kebbi, and procurement of seven modified light tactical armored vehicles, 6,000 tactical ballistic vests, and 6,250 ballistic helmets.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, described the visit as symbolic and significant. He welcomed the Ministry’s renewed engagement and stressed that the partnership is rooted in shared goals and strategic alignment.

“The Ministry of Police Affairs plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting the work of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund. Despite challenges, we remain committed to our core mandate—supporting the funding, training, equipment, and welfare of the Nigeria Police Force,” Sheidu said.

He further outlined the Fund’s various interventions across commands nationwide, ranging from infrastructure development and technology deployment to vehicle procurement and personnel welfare initiatives.

The visit marks a renewed synergy between the Ministry and the Trust Fund, with both bodies pledging continued collaboration to uplift the Nigeria Police Force and improve internal security across the country.
