AIG Fayoade Orders Tight Security Measures Ahead of Eid-al-Adha Celebrations in Lagos, Ogun

Lagos, June 5, 2025 — As Muslims across Nigeria prepare to mark the Eid-al-Adha celebrations, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, fisn, has issued a directive for heightened security across Lagos and Ogun States to ensure a peaceful and incident-free festive period.

AIG Fayoade, in a security advisory released on Thursday, charged the Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun States, along with commanders and officers of various tactical and intelligence units, to intensify patrols and surveillance in strategic locations. These include worship centres, shopping malls, tourist sites, marketplaces, commercial hubs, social gathering spots, highways, residential areas, train stations, garages, bus terminals, and other public facilities.

Units directed to step up security efforts include the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), Force and State Intelligence Bureaus (FIB and SIB), Patrol and Guard units, X-Squad, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Traffic Officers, among others.

The AIG emphasized the importance of safeguarding both critical national infrastructure and privately owned properties during the celebration. He also stressed the need for traffic officers to ensure free-flowing vehicular movement throughout the holiday period.

In his Eid message, AIG Fayoade extended warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful and encouraged the public to celebrate without fear, assuring them of the Police Force's readiness to protect lives and property.

He further called on citizens to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious movements or activities within their neighborhoods.
