Award-Winning Officers Set New Benchmark for Excellence – Senator Gaidam

ABUJA – The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has applauded the dedication and professionalism of officers honoured at the second edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony, describing them as exemplary figures setting a high standard for others in the force.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja, Senator Gaidam emphasized that the honourees reflect the core ideals of modern policing—protection of lives, justice, and the preservation of public order. He noted that their outstanding service not only guarantees the safety of Nigerians but also strengthens the nation's democratic institutions.

“As we honour the most outstanding police officer of the year today, let us remember that their achievements reflect the collective spirit of our entire force,” he said. “They exemplify virtues such as honesty, bravery, and selflessness—qualities that are the bedrock of effective and trusted policing.”

The Minister further described the award ceremony as more than a formal event, but a solemn recognition of the courage, resilience, and professionalism demonstrated daily by officers of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged that their stories of sacrifice and service continue to serve as inspiration for others, reinforcing a culture of loyalty and national service.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his visionary leadership and continued investment in national security. He lauded the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, for his leadership and commitment to institutional reform, noting that the award initiative reflects a clear drive to uplift and motivate police personnel.

In his welcome remarks, IGP Egbetokun highlighted the rigorous and transparent selection process that led to the recognition of the awardees. “Officers did not apply for recognition; they earned it through uncommon courage, ethical conduct, and unwavering dedication,” he said. “To all award recipients—you have become standard bearers of a redefined Nigeria Police Force. Carry the honour with humility and a fierce determination to do more.”

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, emphasized the role of commendation in institution-building. He noted that celebrating excellence and rewarding integrity play a key role in strengthening morale and promoting a resilient and professional security architecture.

The event also featured the decoration of outstanding officers, including INSPR Alabi Kayode of the Kwara State Command, who was honoured as the third recipient of the Traffic Warden of the Year award.
