Eid Mubarak: Ajiran Youths Celebrate Cultural Heritage in Grand Style
Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State came alive with colour and culture as youths across its eight clans marked the annual Eid Mubarak celebration and community reunion in grand fashion.
The well-attended event, which has its roots in the traditions of the founding families—Aiyeloro, Ejo, Odofin, Oluge, Semo, Ojomo, Tame, and Igara—was spearheaded this year by Mr. Wasiu Adisa Akinsemoyin, a prominent politician and native of Ajiran Town, who also serves as Chairman of the Ajiran Clans Forum.
The celebration served as a platform to reunite sons and daughters of the town from home and abroad, providing opportunities to network, celebrate their heritage, and give back to the community. Each family showcased its unique identity through colourful displays and traditional attire, contributing to the festive atmosphere.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Lekan Odofin described the celebration as a homecoming for many in the diaspora. “This is a time for us to reconnect with our roots, enjoy traditional delicacies, and support those in need within our town,” he said.
Also sharing his thoughts, Mr. Kareem Irewunmi of the Igara family expressed appreciation for the revival of the tradition. “This celebration was neglected for several years until Mr. Akinsemoyin brought it back. Today, we are proud to witness our people embracing our culture and reuniting with loved ones. It’s an event that teaches and preserves our heritage,” he stated.
In his remarks, Mr. Wasiu Adisa Akinsemoyin emphasized the importance of sustaining the town’s cultural values. “Ajiran is our ancestral home, and it’s our duty to preserve and guide its legacy. This annual gathering allows our people—many of whom come from different parts of the world—to give back to the community. Despite economic challenges, we are driven by pride and commitment to uplift our people,” he said, adding that even more impactful activities are planned for next year.
The Ajiran youths commended the chairman for his consistent support, especially in the areas of youth empowerment across financial, physical, and educational sectors. The event not only highlighted unity and culture but also reaffirmed the community’s resolve to build a stronger, more connected future.
