First Lady Commissions Oluremi Tinubu Resettlement City in Keffi, Says President Tinubu Is Committed to Caring for All Nigerians

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive welfare through the Renewed Hope Agenda, as she commissioned the Oluremi Tinubu Resettlement City in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The resettlement facility, located in Yar-Kande community, was established by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to provide displaced Nigerians with shelter, empowerment, and long-term livelihood opportunities.

Speaking at the commissioning on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Senator Tinubu said the initiative is part of a broader national strategy to rebuild lives and restore dignity to those affected by insurgency, banditry, communal conflict, and natural disasters.

“This city represents a milestone in our effort to restore hope and dignity to Nigerians who have suffered displacement. I’m pleased to witness the resettlement of 40 households—239 individuals—into a safe and dignified environment,” she said.

Highlighting the project's holistic approach, the First Lady noted that the Resettlement City comes fully equipped with greenhouses, a vocational training center, places of worship, a police post, and other essential amenities. She also revealed that 100 hectares of farmland have been secured to support food production and income generation for the families.

“Our work doesn’t end at providing shelter. Resettlement must go hand-in-hand with empowerment. These families must be able to live independently and contribute meaningfully to their host communities,” she added.

Senator Tinubu also distributed bags of rice, clothing, and other relief materials to the resettled residents, urging them to remain law-abiding and peaceful in their new environment.

Nasarawa State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Sule, who joined the First Lady at the event, described the Resettlement City as more than infrastructure, but a “symbol of hope.” He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership in addressing security challenges and expressed optimism that with continued cooperation from communities, peace would be fully restored.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, praised the First Lady’s advocacy for social inclusion, saying the initiative restores both hope and dignity to vulnerable populations.

Also present was the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, who announced business grants of ₦200,000 each for the 40 households to support their economic independence.

Representing the beneficiaries, Geoffrey Bitrus expressed gratitude to the First Lady and the government, saying they now “look forward to the future with renewed hope.”

The event also had in attendance dignitaries including the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd); Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Bashir Lado; and the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Malick Fall.

The Oluremi Tinubu Resettlement City is now home to displaced Nigerians, including refugees from Cameroon and Sudan. The city boasts modern infrastructure such as a clinic, school, solar power supply, and religious centers—signifying a new beginning for its residents.
